Monachopsis by Lyra Winters

This book comes out on January  25th. However, I was part of the arc team that reviewed it. This story has its ups & downs.  It's about an 18 year old werewolf who is the next Alpha. She is excited to find her mate, which happens on your 18th birthday. Yet, nothing goes as planned. She ends up her mate is her sister's boyfriend. And her rejects his mate so he can be with her sister. Her sisters mate died. So her view on mates is jaded. Sophia is devastated until she gets a second chance at love. See what happens, read this book. Also after she becomes Alpha will things get better for her or will her sisters presence with her rejected mate keep hurting her. Can she lead her pack with all this going on & pack business? WARNING there is sex in this book. I recommended 18 & older.

Slumber by Becky Bird

This book is hilarious! I love the banter between Prince Thomas & Lucy, the orphan. So basically this book is about a kingdom that's King is dead. The Queen is trying to get her son to marry, so he can become King. It is a stipulation set by the former King. However, Prince Thomas is very arrogant & vain. He is only looking for the most beautiful woman ever to marry. Unbeknownst to him there is someone waiting to kill him & take the throne for himself. He is sent on a quest to find sleeping beauty. Little does he know his royal guards plan on killing him. His life is saved by an orphan girl named Lucy. Who dresses like a man, is disrespectful, rude, hates him & finds him repulsive, & she never stops talking. They end up on the quest together. Over time & near death experiences because of the sorcerer Prince Thomas changes. The rest is nonstop action. And the ending has a very unexpected plot twist at the end. You will love the ending! There were a few errors that I will point out so that the editors know & can hopefully correct for future readers. These were read on my Kindle. Page 1004 there are two that's, in the sentence that reads; Obviously , with a little upkeep, the girl could really be something but judging from the male attire she was wearing and the bird’s nest hair, she’d somehow missed that that fact. On page 1883 the sentence that reads; And maybe it is, thought Phillip as removed his boots, ready to retire for the night. It needs to have the word he in between as & removed.

Ghostly Return (Magical Arts Academy 7)

Isa helps the firedrakes & gains a mental link with one. SPOILER ALERT: The kids schooling changes to a more apprenticeship type teaching. The brothers/sisters are separated. And Isa visits the spirit world. It helps her realize she has a serious crush on someone & those feelings are reciprocated. She realizes she was wasting time, why didn't she act. Just throw caution to the wind, like she does in other aspects of her life?

Sorcerer's Web (Magical Arts Academy 6)

Wow, it just keeps getting better! Imagine having a connection to a firedrakes. I would love it! Like a human sized version of a dragon. You can still ride them, why is Isa so stinking afraid of everything! If it were me I would be all smiles at the creatures in this series. Lisa's powers keep becoming a danger to herself! I swear someone just needs to take her by herself & teach her everything about her portaling abilities. For real!

Questionable Rescue (Magical Arts Academy 5)

It never ceases to amaze me what dark magicians might do. Isa preformed a lot of magic in this book. Especially, since she didn't learn any of what she did from a teacher. I swear they will never learn anything at this school at this rate! Between all of the rescue missions that go on & fighting there is no time for school.

Improbable Ally (Magical Arts Academy 4)

She does her first spell under duress & it is a bit of rare magic. Now she is forced to believe she has magic. I still don't understand why she didn't stop running to go outside when she knew something was wrong because the teachers were missing. You would think after everything they had been through that she would hear alarm bells going off in her head. SPOILER ALERT: I am surprised that no one told the kids never to go through a portal with someone they don't know. Especially Walt & Marie should have known that. Marie has been studying for 2 years after all!

Unexpected Agents (Magical Arts Academy 3)

They learn about the history of magic. And about the strange firedrakes. Nando seems as awed by everything as Isa. Except I don't know if he is as curious as she is about everything! Unfortunately, it seems every time they have a class something interrupts the class. Two new sorcerers arrive to help teach. SPOILER ALERT: A vampire & a transformation specialist, who is a bit of a drama queen! At the end two new students arrive. One excited to be there, the other wants to go home. I guess we shall see what he decides in the next book. They find out they have spies in their midst!

Winged Persuit (Magical Arts Academy 2)

Great storytelling! She was born to be a writer. She makes this world come alive in my head, like a movie. Almost like being in another realm myself! Isa seems to be gaining confidence in certain areas. It seems Marcelo & his wife are schoolmates because they can't stand to be away from each other for half a day even. I started reading Magical Creatures Academy before I found this one, so I am reading backwards. However, I am loving seeing how the schools got started. SPOILER ALERT: surprised Isa was able to save Mordecai's life. Also that Nando turned out ok. Love the animals so far. Nothing like magical creatures to keep me interested. I can imagine how awe inspiring it is for Isa & Nando. On to the next!

First Spell (Magical Arts Academy 1)

A marvel about discovering magic exists! I absolutely loved this book & can't wait to read the whole series. I read this in one night! This is my kind of book. A dragon, 2 magic fight scenes, some sympathy, spells & a magical school. Also a girl that is so curious she keeps putting herself in danger. Isa has spunk & she's very strong willed. She has to know the why before she follows an order. If she follows an order. Seriously you must read this, you won't be sorry!

Magic Awakens (Witching World 1)

The emotions Clara goes through are perfectly what I would expect I would go through. Especially if I found out I was a powerful witch when they were being murdered for existing. The pain she goes through during the fever & when she is burned must have been horrible! I really connected with her. I would have done anything to get away from her family & that jerk Winston. Albacus is quite different in this series. I started with another series before learning what order to read these books. Be sure to check you are reading the right books first. I started with Magical Creatures Academy. One of your most recent then read Magical Arts Academy.

Night Shifter (Magical Creatures Academy 1)

Rina needs to learn so much more about the magical world. Even though her father wrote a series of books the school uses as text books. She never read them. Add to that the fact that she can't shift, yet gets invited to the Magical Creatures Academy. Her friends & their shifting abilities are hilarious. And she & her brother rekindle their close relationship after their lives are threatened. Can't wait to see what happens in the next one. Bring on the sexy fae Prince & his kingdom!

Power Streak (Magical Creatures Academy 4)

WARNING SPOILER ALERT. ALSO THIS BOOK HAS  MASTURBATION IN IT. Jas stupidly picks up a magical object, think it's just an necklace. And to Jas anything she finds, she can keep. So she immediately puts it on. Weird stuff starts happening to her from then on. She can't get into the Academy, she has her hands get stuck to a machine that tests she is who she says she is. Then she randomly starts disappearing in class, only to reappear in the most random places. She saves a pandacorn (panda unicorn) & brings him back with her. He becomes so attached to her he won't let anyone else hold him. Jas discovers the Voices' hideout accidentally & ends up in a bad situation. She is able to call on her friends through the necklace. However, she soon learns the necklace isn't all good. It seems it somehow stold another students powers. And the student is slowly being drained of her powers & life force. Can the same happen to Jas? I forgot to mention that Jas finally gets her man, Ky. Ky finally decides her likes Jas enough to not care that his sister is Jas' friend. Loved the hilarious scene with Stacy & her friends towards the end.

Lion Shifter (Magical Creatures Academy Book 2)

How can Leander not see through what Stacy is doing & how bad it would look to Rina? He has to be totally clueless! I never had a hot looking guy friend that let me drape myself across him 24/7. Now I did have a hot guy that was a family friend drape his arm around me, to embarrass me. Then he'd start yelling random things to get people to look at us. I had to cover hi mouth which made him fight it, lol. Good times, too bad he had a girlfriend at the time. 😬 SPOILER ALERT: poor Rina works her butt off getting strong enough to endure a kidnapping! Only to not even have a chance to fight back because of the tactics the kidnappers used. No one saw it coming! Love the fact that Leander now wants to fight to be with her. Rina is the same way. Bring on the romance in the next book!

Mage Shifter (Magical Creatures Academy Book 3)

SPOILER ALERT: Rina finally comes into her own in this book. She is able to fend for herself & fight back. Hallelujah!!! Poor girl's been needing a confidence booster. Anyway the school spell goes crazy. Everything goes nuts! It's like horror school high, lol. Then Rina's magic starts going crazy. During shifter class 2 of her friends get hurt. The teacher wasn't very helpful during the crisis. Rina finds herself doing spells she has no idea what the outcome would be. The outcomes are hilarious! And the ending is epic!!! Great job Lucia. Loved what happened to Stacy! Couldn't have happened to a better person. ;) ;) Lol.

Wicked Omen The Royals Warlock Court Book 1

I love the quests & personal growth that Astrid had in this book. She is one of my favorite warlocks now. I am wondering if the moon shape she got at the sorting ceremony means she is supposed to be a Queen to? I loved that Beckett finally is interested in a girl. And I really loved how you wrote poor misunderstood Medusa! I love that Medusa is just in need of some girl time. Her lair sounds amazing. I would make regular visits to her, just so she has a friend. Life has to be so lonely for her even with a cell phone. Her other sisters leave a lot to be desired though. I hope in the next book Beckett will finally start sharing how he feels about Astrid with her instead of confusing her so much. I don't want to wait for the next one!

Welcome, do you need a proofreader?

I love to proofread. I just kind of stumbled into this. I have been reviewing books for over a year. It started out with regular books, then I discovered arcs. Then I got a tip from someone on where I could get my hands on more arcs.  That's when it happened, I reviewed a book & listed the corrections that needed to be made after the review. Now I will say I would never have done this had I known how to get in touch with the author personally. I was contacted by the Author & thanked. Needless to say they went back in & made the changes. When her proofreader got sick she contacted me to fill in. That's when I realized how much I liked doing this and actually I had been doing this already in every book I read. You see it drives me crazy to find a mistake and not fix it in my own copies of books. I never imagined I could make some money doing it. I am a freelance proofreader. I am flexible & I am sure we can come to an affordable price. Contact me so we can talk about what I can help you with. I also, proofread documents & school papers. I have proofread for Author Barbara Russell & another Author.

Faerie Pawn (Dark World) Book 2

This one however, isn't my favorite in the series. Yes there was flirting and a kiss between the 2 main characters. There was a lot of scheming, which you would expect in a book like this. It was sad that the 2 alkaloids that died in this book were friends of Selena. I knew this was going to happen at some point. It's just hard when you like the characters that were created so much. I can't believe it took her so long to figure out Julian true intentions. I did enjoy all of the different worlds or realms that were created. It is a really complex set of realms. I can't wait for the next book which I hear is really steamy!

Faerie Games (Dark World) Book 1

I loved that book. The humor was witty. The characters were really likable. If only Selena's parents would have told her the truth about her birth parents. None of this would have happened. We all know what forbidding a teenager to do something causes, rebellion. Serena rebels against the rules she thinks are unfair. However, if she knew what would happen when she left Avalon, she would have stayed home. Instead she gets taken to another world to meet her birth father. And she is forced to do as he says. She has no idea how to leave! Find out how she gets stuck in the Faerie Games & her adventure in Otherworld.

Wish List How to Be the Best Damn Faery Godmother in the World or Die Trying

This book Wish List How to Be the Best Damn Faery Godmother or Die Trying is written by Helen Harper. Warning there may be spoilers in this review. I love how sassy Saffron is. She always gets the wildest cases! A old lady who shoots to kill & is being stalked by a crooked politician & his goons. When she meets Rose, her client, she almost gets shot by the goons as she & Rose make a run to a vehicle. It gets crazier after that. Add to that the fact that Saffron is supposed to be leading a task force to find the trolls. Can her life get any busier? Or more dangerous?

The Destruction of Rose by Rachel M. Raithby

This book review is of The Destruction of Rose by Rachel M. Raithby.  WARNING SPOILER ALERT. Warning this book has 2 short sex scenes & some adult situations. I  got this book as a gift. I have never felt so many gut wrenching emotions in one book! Poor Rose is manipulated by her mother to be a stuck up snob, who is the most popular in the school. Rose is a girl who would do ANYTHING to get to the top. Including losing who she is & giving in to the darkness. Her father is manipulating her by giving her gifts or affection to make her not notice what he really is doing. She is forced to move to New York (she lived in London). Now she has to start all over at school. The climb starts all over again, to be the most popular. What's worse, the guy she met when she was 13 is at the school. She has measured every guy by him for years! He is her first love. And he is the most popular guy at her new school. Will she risk everything including him, for popularity. This book comes out Jan. 11th, 2020.

His Talent by Barbara Russell

This is a review on a book called His Talent by Barbara Russell. Warning there is sex in this book. I would suggest 18 & older. First of all I love this story. A guy & girl on both opposite sides of society. They are brought together to solve a crime. Both characters have major baggage. First Alexandra has just gone through a rough marriage that was annulled. And Noah has been in jail. Noah doesn't want to reveal his past because he thinks she won't understand. In this book both their pasts come back to haunt them as they learn to accept each other. Will it be enough though, to build a relationship on? And when they go back to society will her rich friends accept him? This book comes out January 12, 2020.

Introduction/January Moon Review

Let me introduce myself, I am Kathy Landes Mayer. I am a mother of two, a wife, a book reviewer, and a proofreader. Why review books you ask? Because the authors need the feedback. It helps their ratings and it helps them decide if they should keep writing that series or if they should start another one. I've been reviewing for a years now.
Then I kind of got lucky & have had several opportunities to proofread books. Author Barbara Russell, Brenda Trim & Ingrid Seymour have used my services and so have other Authors. I love doing it. Please contact me, we can work out an affordable price. I will discuss in more detail with the Author what they want. My rates are very fair since I am doing this as a side hustle. I also write Christian poetry with the intent to indie publish one day. This is my passion!
Here is my latest review of a book I just read by Victoria Danes called January Moon. It will be released on December 27th. I received an arc (advanced release copy) of it. I will talk more later about what these are & where to find them. WARNING: this book contains sex, violence, & bad language. I recommend 18 and up read this. I really love the rebellious spirit of Jade. In the world of werewolves, there is no place for it though. Women are meant to be submissive. The mate & Alpha are to put them in their place! Only Jade just found out she is a wolf, she is an adult & set in her independent ways. Did I mention she's a touch clairvoyant too? She has created a connection with another wolf only he's not who she was promised too. So read on to see what the wolf council has to say about that. Also, someone is killing young women. 27 is the final count. Can Jade solve the mystery with all the other mounting stress around her?
